An Event Never to Be Forgotten

Ryan Halvorson -
An Event Never to Be Forgotten

Peace of Mind

Each time I attend one of these events, I try to take a bit of time to myself, take off my staff badge and take a class for fun. I always intend on participating in some sort of high intensity movement-oriented class, but after two boot camp classes and what feels like several miles worth of walking, I somehow find myself in a class that focuses on becoming calm and centered. I started this tradition back in 2004 when I had my first taste of Tai Chi with instructor Scott Cole. Remembering how peaceful and refreshed I felt then, I decided to enjoy a reunion of sorts and attended Cole's Millennium Stretch early Sunday evening. Talk about medicine for a weary soul. Cole's easy pace and gentle humor helped my aching muscles and overworked brain unwind from a long, but memorable convention. I emerged from the room with a newfound sense of calm, balance and serenity, and the energy to push through one final day.

All Wrapped Up

I've pretty much spent the entire convention engrossed in exercise science, business tactics and all things relating to personal training. So this morning I decided to attend the "It's a Wrap" group exercise session as it was sure to be a must-attend event to help close the convention down with a memorable bang. I was right. From Tamilee Webb and Judi Sheppard Misset to Kathy Smith and Patrick Goudeau (not to mention the rest of the all-star cast), each brought their own signature style and flair for a once-in-a-lifetime showdown of superior fitness talent that spans decades. Record numbers of attendees flocked to the class and mamboed, crunked and shook their tail feathers for nearly two hours. I honestly have no idea how these die-hard professionals managed to work so hard on this last day, but they pushed through with smiles, sweat and determination (IDEA's very own Kathie Davis joined in as well during the '80s tribute portion taught by Mindy Mylrea and Keli Roberts!).

Here's to 25 More!

IDEA's 25th anniversary event was absolutely unforgettable. I feel truly blessed to have been a part of this great convention and hope that all attendees share my sentiments. I am also very thankful to have been given the opportunity to lead two very special sessions that I will remember as long as there is breath in these lungs. Thanks to the attendees of the Midway and Sand and Sea boot camps for going with me on such a fun journey. And thanks to all conference attendees, IDEA and staff, presenters, exhibitors and everyone else who made their way to San Diego for a truly amazing experience! Hooooah!
