Too often the term “functional” is used without considering the critical issues of integrated movement. This program will address the characteristics of human motion and the criteria that make an activity or movement pattern truly “functional.” The second half of this seminar will look at the kinetic chain and explore how you can blend progressive functional training with the traditional model of exercise, and target various regions of the body, through the Science of Tweakology.

430: InTensive: Functional Assessment, Strategies and Program Design for the Foot, Lower Extremity and Hip (WS / Assessment-Corrective Exercise / Personal Training / Post Rehab)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
This InTensive is available for $69.00   Purchase
InTensive - Sunday, 8:00am-12:00pm
Register now

Explore the functional anatomy of the foot, leg and hip, and explore useful assessment techniques you can use to determine the action of the foot and its chain reaction upon the leg and hip. Examine the expected biomechanical reactions of movement and common compensations exposed by implementing these useful assessment tools. Create program design strategies to address the issues and goals of each client. Upon completion of this workshop, you will view movement from an entirely different perspective and develop a new thought process for program design and exercise prescription.

Preconference - 11:00am-5:00pm
017: Function Litmus Test and the Science of Tweakology (L/D / Assessment-Corrective Exercise / Personal Training / Post Rehab)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
This Preconference is available for $199   Purchase
Preconference - Thursday, 11:00am-5:00pm

This course will delve into the true characteristics of human motion and definitively address the criteria that make an activity or movement pattern functional. Too often fitness professionals use the term “functional” without addressing the issues of integrated movement. Participants will be exposed to the following concepts and learn how they interface with functional integrated movement.

179: Functional Integrated Abdominal Training (WS)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
time block D - Friday, 3:30-5:20pm
Register now

This session will explore how the abdominals and core actually lengthen in all functional movements before producing functional work. Incorporate the upper and lower extremities to accomplish enhanced performance and a workout that has a truly three-dimensional feel. We will discuss recent research as it applies to core training and then take an analytical approach to seeing how it relates to truly functional abdominal activity.

309: Flexibility Highways: A Road Map to Enhanced Performance (WS)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
time block H - Saturday, 3:00-4:50pm

Human motion is an integrated chain relationship that is dependent upon the partnership of adjacent muscle groups to attain optimal function and performance. As an example, for optimal three-dimensional abdominal motions, the calf group must have adequate range of motion to allow the hip to be in proper motion and to ultimately affect the abdominals.

132: Functional Assessment, Strategies and Program Design for the Foot, Lower Extremity and Hip (L/WS)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
time block D - Friday, 1:25-4:15pm
Register now

This session addresses the functional anatomy of the foot, leg and hip and explores useful assessment techniques, which can successfully be used to determine the action of the foot and its chain reaction upon the leg and hip. Gain an understanding of the biomechanical reactions of movement and some of the common compensations that are exposed by implementing some useful assessment tools. Participants will learn to view movement from an entirely different perspective and develop a new thought process for program design.

233: Functional Assessment, Strategies and Program Design for the Lumbar and Thoracic Spine (L/WS)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
time block I - Saturday, 1:10-4:00pm
Register now

We will address the functional anatomy of the lumbar and thoracic spine and explore useful assessment techniques that can successfully be used to determine the action of the back and its impact upon nearly every movement of the body. Gain an understanding of the expected biomechanical reactions of movement and some of the common compensations exposed by proper implementation of specialized assessment tools. You will view movement from an entirely different perspective and develop a new thought process for program design.

Intensive - 8:15am-12:15pm
121: Movement Training for Special Populations InTensive (I / Personal Training)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
This Intensive is available for $69.00   Purchase
Intensive - Friday, 8:15am-12:15pm
Register now

Examine how movement patterns are functionally integrated, along with concerns that must be considered when working with special populations. This session will examine functional anatomy, the body's reaction and compensations to movement for various segments of the population, ranging from sedentary to chronic disorders. You will begin to understand functional anatomy and the compensations that may contribute to chronic conditions. Limited to 24 participants. Additional fee required. See page 12 for more information. Intensive - 1:10-5:10pm
250: Bridging the Gap Series: Blending Traditional Exercise With Functional Movement Patterns InTensive (I / Personal Training)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
Intensive - Saturday, 1:10-5:10pm

The functional revolution has expanded the mindset of the personal training world. But it has also caused considerable controversy as to the what, how, when and why to use functional training. This series, usually presented in three parts, has been combined into one complete 4-hour InTensive session. Participants will explore the criteria that make a program functional and how to blend traditional exercises with functional movement patterns in order to create a comprehensive training program for all clients. Limited to 24 participants. Additional fee required. See page 12 for more information. CEC: ACE 0.4 NASM CGT 0.4 NASM CPT 0.4 AFAA 3.0 NSCA-CSCS 0.4 NSCA-CPT 0.4 AEA 2

172: Assessment and Reaction-Shoulder Function (WS / Personal Training)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
time block D - Wednesday, 3:00-4:50pm
Join stand-by list

Understanding the interaction of the lower extremity to the upper extremity is critical to developing a true functional shoulder training program. This session will demonstrate functional assessment techniques for the shoulder and how they are utilized in developing a program strategy for enhanced shoulder action. Note: This is the first of three sessions in the Assessment and Reaction series. Enrollment in all three is recommended, but not required.

241: Assessment and Reaction-Foot Function (WS / Personal Training)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
time block G - Thursday, 8:05-9:55am
Join stand-by list

Understanding the interaction of the foot and its relationship to the upper and lower extremities is a critical component to developing a comprehensive training program. This session will demonstrate functional assessment techniques and how the information they provide is applied to enhance foot action for all clients. Note: This is the second of three sessions in the Assessment and Reaction series. Enrolling in all three is recommended, but not required.

278: Assessment and Reaction-Back Function (WS / Personal Training)
Presented By Chuck Wolf, MS
time block I - Thursday, 2:45-4:35pm
Join stand-by list

Understanding the interaction of the lumbar and thoracic spine and its relationship to the upper and lower extremities is a critical component to the development of a true functional training program. Assessing back function hinges on how the feet, lower extremity and pelvis are integrated in their actions. This session will demonstrate functional assessment techniques for the back and how this information is implemented for the purpose of enhancing movement for all populations. Note: This is the final installment of three sessions in the Assessment and Reaction series. Enrollment in all three is recommended, but not required.
