Sessions Presented by Greg Roskopf, MA

InTensive - 8:30am-12:30pm
257: InTensive: Muscle Activation Techniques: From Start to Finish (L/WS / Assessment-Corrective Exercise / Personal Training / Post Rehab)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
InTensive - Saturday, 8:30am-12:30pm

Most trainers have noticed limited range of motion (ROM) and/or compensation problems in many of their clients’ movement patterns. Limitations in ROM are indicators of muscular weakness. These weaknesses lead to compensation and ultimately to injury and pain. Learn this exceptional assessment/correction system that accurately identifies and corrects muscular imbalances from start to finish! Learn a step-by-step approach to assess and correct each of your client’s individual muscular imbalances. Find out how to follow-up with a specific exercise routine that “jump starts” the weak muscles and eliminates imbalances that exist. Note: This class will emphasize the identification and correction of muscular imbalances in the lower body.

307: Individual Assessments: The Precursor to Exercise Prescription (L/D / Assessment-Corrective Exercise / Personal Training)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
time block H - Saturday, 3:00-4:50pm

Every client that comes to you demonstrates individual differences in their biomechanics. Knock-kneed, pigeon-toed, pronated, supinated, lordotic or kyphotic posture, a trainer needs to understand how the exercise prescription affects their clients. In this class, trainers will be given tools to objectively assess for muscular imbalances in order to fully understand each client’s mechanical issues in order to be more specific with their exercise prescription.

457: A Unique Look at the Knee Joint (L/D / Assessment-Corrective Exercise / Personal Training)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
time block J - Sunday, 9:40-11:30am

My knee hurts when I walk down the stairs. I cannot squat due to knee pain. These are a few statements that we hear over and over again. Take an in-depth look at the knee joint and gain an understanding of how the muscles control knee joint function and how abnormal mechanics in the foot and the hip can affect the function at the knee. Gain tools for identifying muscular imbalances throughout the lower kinetic chain.

217: Understanding Muscular Assessment and Function: An Introduction to Muscle Activation Techniques™ (MAT™) (L/WS)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
Special time: 8:10am-5:00pm - Overlaps Time Block H, I, J
time block G - Saturday, 8:10am-5:00pm

As trainers, you've been exposed to various assessment techniques and training regimes that can simply be " plugged in" to any client's program. Many of these concepts appear to be contradictory to one another and may leave you wondering how they all fit together.

In Part I of this 8-hour course, you'll explore the physiological foundation behind MAT and the distinctive concepts that enable objective analysis of the information uncovered by current assessment practices.

In Part II, you'll learn and practice techniques that will allow you to assess the contractile capabilities of muscles and their ability to handle force. You'll discover:

Why and how limitations in range of motion (ROM) are representative of muscular imbalances.

A systematic approach to test for limitations in ROM

How to correct muscular muscular imbalances by "jumpstarting" weak muscles.

***This course is an abbreviated version of the Muscle Activation Techniques' Jumpstart (lower extremity) Program.

139: Trainer Accountability-Are We Prepared to Train Clients Who Are in Pain? (L / Personal Training)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
time block C - Friday, 10:25am-12:15pm
Register now

In an industry where there has been a major shift toward exercise rehabilitation and corrective exercises, many trainers recognize the impact they can have on those who are currently being medically managed. We have to ask ourselves, are we really prepared to work with injured clients? What impact does exercise have on an injured client and how do we know if it is even beneficial? These questions and more will be answered in this session. CEC: ACE 0.2

209: A Unique Look at Spinal Stability (L / Personal Training)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
time block F - Saturday, 7:30-9:20am
Register now

As a trainer, you recognize the significance of abdominal strengthening. However, many clients continue to demonstrate instability in the core or complain of back or SI-joint pain with the most well-designed core training programs. In this class, you will be given tools to assess core stability and we'll look at how imbalances in the hips, legs and feet can contribute to instability in the core. Get a leg up on core stability training. CEC: ACE 0.2 NASM CGT 0.2 NASM CPT 0 .2 AFAA 2.0 NSCA-CSCS 0.2 NSCA-CPT 0.2 AEA 1

Preconference - 1:00-5:00pm
011: Muscle Activation Techniques™ (MAT): Protecting Clients From Injury (Pre)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
This Preconference is available for $205   Purchase

Muscular imbalances are the precursors to compensation, which ultimately lead to pain and injury. The identification and correction of these imbalances is more involved than simply stretching and strengthening opposing muscles. This lecture/workshop will take an in-depth look at the concepts behind Muscle Activation Techniques and will provide trainers with a step-by-step approach to assess and correct each client's individual muscular imbalances. In addition, we will delve into the neurological issues that must be addressed prior to designing exercise programs. As trainers, it becomes our responsibility to understand these imbalances, compensations and neurological involvements in order to prevent us from injuring our clients, and to ensure maximum gains in fitness. ***Note: this class will emphasize the identification and correction of muscular imbalances in the lower body.

281: The Key to Function Comes From the Feet (L / Personal Training)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
time block I - Thursday, 2:45-4:35pm
Register now

We walk on them all day. We expect them to handle the forces of gravity and ground reaction forces. Functional exercise is dependent on proper foot mechanics, so why do we give them such little attention? In this class, you will gain an understanding of the impact muscle function has on overall foot mechanics and its relationship to overall function. We will discuss the special properties of various shoewear and orthotics.

341: Assessing Our Assessments (L / Personal Training)
Presented By Greg Roskopf, MA
time block L - Friday, 10:10am-12:00pm
Register now

Trainers have a variety of assessments at their fingertips. Most involve subjective evaluations, which only provide us with an assumption of what may be wrong. In this course, we will take an objective look at the assessment tools that are being used in the industry today. Trainers will be given the foundational tools to properly and objectively assess client mechanics. These new tools will allow us to be more accurate in our exercise recommendations.

368: Trainer Accountability-Responsibility and Preparation (L / Personal Training)
