This lecture/demo will explore the anatomy and biomechanics involved in the normal healthy functioning of the knee, including the available movements and typical movement patterns. Some of the interruptions that can occur and common abnormal or dysfunctional movement patterns will then be addressed. Finally, exercise progressions to rebuild normal muscle action and movement patterning, challenge and promote optimal function, prepare for specific activities and enhance performance will be outlined.

In keeping with current research, this session focuses on modifying mat work for lower-back problems. Major focus is placed on creating awareness and endurance in the deep stabilizers of the lumbar and pelvic region to alleviate and prevent lower-back pain. This workshop is a perfect foundation for any exercise program.

Build more challenge and diversity with this Level 4 Flex-Band® workshop. You will learn how to challenge core and peripheral strength with the resistance provided by the Flex-Band exerciser and increase exercise intensity in the areas of neuromuscular coordination, balance, strength and flexibility. Cues and corrections for safety and effectiveness are also covered. Repeated as session #493.

This interactive workshop teaches participants select exercises from the STOTT PILATES Essential Matwork repertoire with emphasis on the goals of the exercises, movement patterns, breath patterns and correct alignment. Welcome to IDEA’s first “mini-Inner IDEA” preconference 1-day experience, intended to give you a taste of the full Inner IDEA event—a mindful multidimensional exploration of wellness. After an experiential opening address on the art of living in the present moment, you will be able to participate in three body-mind education tracks—Gyrotonic® exercises, yoga and Pilates—offered in three separate time periods (you can stay with one track for all three or jump back and forth). The day will culminate with an inspiring tai chi experience. Note: This preconference session is designed to create an immersion experience of body-mind modalities, in a distinctly different environment than the rest of the IDEA World Fitness Convention. (Participation is limited to 150 people.)
